When my godson, Brendan, was about seven years old, he asked me what I did at work. Struggling to find the right words for a child, I told him I helped people grow. He looked confused and responded: "I grow, but nobody helps me." Still searching for a good explanation, I put it this way: "There are many kinds of growth. You can grow bigger or stronger or smarter. One type of growth is growing closer to God. Sometimes, when people want to grow closer to God, they ask me to help." Brendan gave me a puzzled look, shook his head and walked away.

For most of my adult life, my own spiritual growth has been intertwined with efforts to encourage spiritual growth in others. This website flows out of those efforts.

As you explore the site, you will learn something about my search and struggle to discover God's presence in Christ and live my life in response to that gift. I hope you will also find here support and guidance for your own journey to the porch light that calls us home.
